Free Haircut

Today I went to get my hair cut. I had a coupon for a FREE haircut for first time customers, so I thought, why not try out this place called Sports Clips. When I was seated in the chair. I was told that since, I was a first time customer that I qualified for the MVP treatment. It includes your standard haircut and a massaging shampoo, steamed towel, conditioner, and a neck and shoulder massage. She said that since, I had the "FREE" Coupon that this was free to.

I wouldn't be the Prince of Thrift, if I didn't accept the freebies. The thing, I want to know is how much will they charge, when and if I become a paying customer. I can't seem to find this information? Why is it something that they try to hide?

  1. I've had very good luck getting my hair cut at the local school of cosmetology. If you have a really complicated haircut this isn't probably the best idea but for $5 plus a tip, I can get a good hair cut usually with no wait.

There are also dental schools that will clean your teeth for really cheap (not sure I want students messing with my teeth though) and small engine repair schools that will tune up your lawn mower for really inexpensive.

  2. My son goes to Sports Clips. They have a banner with all the prices right up front by the register. My son's is like 13 bucks, which is for an under 10 year old haircut and nothing else. Here the adult haircut with all that extra stuff is in the 20s, I think. I go to a place called Great Clips and always use a coupon- never free though. Regular price there is 12 but the mailers usually have 6.99 or 8.99 coupons. Sometimes they have 4.99 days, but they advertise on the sidewalk only.

  3. Debt Free Dude - a great idea. I have used the cosmetology schools before myself.

Not sure about Dental Schools though. Most insurances provide free semi-annual (or annual) cleanings anyway, if you have Dental insurance.

Greg - cool! what part of the country are you in? Not sure I have seen the 6.99 or 4.99 deals. Last time I got my haircut professionally, it cost me $8 and that was the barbers regular price, and cheapest place in town. Last couple of years though I shaved my head, but cutting it myself.
