Presidential Library & Museum Tour

One of my goals is to visit every Presidential Library and Museum. Since, not every President has one, it's really not that hard of a goal to meet. There are only 12, unless you count the duplicates. Nixon and Ford have two locations, so if you count both of those then there are 14. Fords 2 are the only ones that are in the same state. Nixon, has one in Maryland and one in California. Of course there are also other museums that include Presidential homes that aren't part of the Presidential Library and Museum System. Such Museums includes George Washington's home and also Thomas Jefferson's home, Montecillo.

So far, the Presidential places I have visited:
  • Jimmy Carter Presidential Library, Atlanta, GA

  • Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library, Abilene, KS

  • Ronald Reagan Birthplace, Tampico, IL

    There is also the Ronald Reagan boyhood home, in Dixon, IL. OK, so now the list of the remaining Presidential Libraries (& Museums) and Presidential attractions that are on my list to visit eventually. One of which is only about 75 miles from me.

    7. Herbert Hoover Library, West Branch, IA
    8. Gerald Ford Library, Ann Arbor, MI
    9. Gerald Ford Museum, Grand Rapids, MI
    10. Richard Nixon Library, College Park, MD
    11. Franklin D, Roosevelt Library, Hyde Park, NY
    12. John F. Kennedy Library, Boston, MA


    In addition, I would love to get to these other locations that aren't part of the National Archives.

  • Ronald Reagan boyhood home, Dixon, IL

  • Thomas Jefferson's Montecillo, Charlottesville, VA

  • George Washngton's home/plantation (Mount Vernon), Mount Vernon, Virginia

    1. I hope its the FDR Library that's next on your list! It was the nation's first, and all FDR's idea to have his papers in one place. His desk is just as it was in the Oval Office. You can also tour his lifelong home, Springwood; see the Rose Garden grave sites of Eleanor and him, and tour Eleanor's Val-Kill, the only National Historic Site for a First Lady, and Top Cottage, which he designed as his own retreat. The grounds are lovely, overlooking the Hudson River, just 90 miles north of NYC. The National Park Service also gives tours of the Vanderbilt Mansion next door! The Library has great exhibits, both historic and personal. Check out his Ford Phaeton, equipped with hand controls so he could drive it! Visit DutchessTourism.com and nps.gov/hofr for information!

    2. There also is the Lincoln Presidential Library In Springfield, IL. it just open a couple of years ago.

      Thanks, but since I am in Topeka (Kansas) my next one will have to be 75 miles up the road in the Kansas City suburb of Independence, MO. I know it's amazing I haven't been there already, but I haven't. His grave and boyhood home is at the site (similar to Eisenhower's, which I have been to). Eventually, I will make it to the New York area to see FDR's as well as the Statue of Liberity, but that will have to be when I am debt free and can save up the money for the trip. Btw, do you or anyone know how far it is from New York City and can you take the light rail to Hyde Park?

      Thanks, I will have to check that out, of course it's not part of the National Archives and thus not listed as an official Presidential Library. Thanks for the info.
