Pay Raise

I received word tonight, that when I return to work on Sunday morning, I will have a new job title. I will no longer be a shift supervisor. Instead, I will be the Assistant Manager. Which means I will be getting a nice pay raise. However, it also means I will be salaried. Which as you know, means I will be working 50-60 hours instead of 40.

I am excited, I finally made it, to the position that I have been after for a long time. My job search, will now be put on hold. The income level is finally at a level, that I like. It's not $60,000, but it's realistic for an industry that there isn't much profit in (1 cent out every dollar, is profit , according to industry statistics).

  3. Thank you anonymous and dedicated. Financially, it will help out a lot. At first, I won't see it, but eventually the extra $4,000/year will be quite noticeable. The downside is I won't be paid weekly anymore. Instead, I am back to a bi-weekly check.

    For some reason, my company pays the hourly employees weekly and the salaried employees bi-weekly.

  5. This is really good news. If anyone deserved it you did Kevin. After reading your various blogs over the last several months I'm reminded of some of the nicer guys I grew up with in Alabama. Simple, kind, caring and God Fearing.

    my company has no stock, and offers no match in the 401(k). As a salaried manager though, I do have the opportunity to earn bonus checks. Something that I didn't get as an hourly employee.

  9. If you are going to work more hours, then you might not even get a pay raise (6000/50/10 = 12 hours more per weeks with no salary increase).

    Am missing something here.
    You should keep looking for a better and higher paying job. In your pay range it shouldn't be that hard...

  10. $19,000 at 52 weeks, 40 hours a week is right about $9.15/hour.

    $23,000 at 52 weeks, 50 hours a week is right about $8.85/hour.

    Yeah, I've gotten on of those promotions before.

    ...and that 50 hours a week turns into 65+.

  11. Congrats, Kevin, I think.... I hope the title will eventually lead you to better paying jobs. As a couple of other posters have noted, $4k isn't much of a return for going to salaried and working 15-20 more hours a week. However, you live so close to the edge that the extra money will come in very handy and I've no doubt you'll use it to the max.

    I have been wanting this promotion for many years. Now I finally have obtained it. For the past year, I have been doing the job without the title. I am thrilled to have the bigger paycheck. True, it may not seem like a raise when you figure all the hours, but it is still a bigger check. Plus, the quarterly and annual bonuses will be a huge help. With sales up at my store, it should be easy getting those bonuses this year.
