Money Making Ideas

I have decided to have a garage sale next month. I will take some vacation time and have a garage sale. The problem is I never seem to make very much at my garage sales. I hear of people making $100, $200, $300 or $400. Me? I am lucky to make $50 most of the time. But $50 is $50 and any little bit helps.

In addition, I like the idea that Jagular suggested. The idea of painting addresses on curbs sounds great. As soon as I read the idea, I thought of a price, then comes along MsMomsMoney, who suggested the exact same price that i was thinking of. Now if I can just find where to get the stencils, so I can paint the numbers. It should be pretty easy to find 100 homes to accept my offer to paint their address on the curb.

Years ago, when I first dropped out of college, I had a roommate that did this for his living, of course he drank all of his money away, but seemed to always have money everyday when he finished up.

  1. You can get stencils at any craft store or local hardware store. Or, you may be able to make your own, find them online, print them out and then trace them onto a sturdier cardboard stock.
    As far as your garage sale, why not ask if any friends or co-workers have anything they want to get rid of and want to "donate" to your yard sale? Offer free pickup service just to get it off thier hands, and you may gert a few bucks for the item! You have to dig deep. Search the entire house for anything you no longer need or use, and sell it. Then dig a little deeper and find more stuff. Remember, you may think it's junk, but someone may just give you a dollar for it! Advertise the sale for free on craigslist!

  2. I have been reading your blogs and you have a lot on your mind. In order to work your way out of debt or get caught up on things and make more money, have you ever thought about getting a better paying job? How about getting back in school? How about getting paid for your blog since your on here all the time. How about eliminating some bills that you don't need, such as the internet, cable, eating out. Things of that nature. Sorry, not casting judgement or anything but it sounds like you need help money wise. We always make exscuses for ourselves and we want folks to help us but we have to help ourself out first. I am a single mom, bills are more than my check and I make it, I know you can. Instead of being on the computer all day, put in 10 apps a day to get a better paying job. There are tons of things you can do out there to make more money and get out of debt. You have to put your first foot forward and get busy!!!

  3. Is it legal for anyone to paint numbers on curbs? I'm trying to think of other ways to make money too that doesn't take filling out applications. Something I can do on my own. I already sell on ebay and have garage sales. I'm thinking about asking my neighbor if I could wash all his work trucks every few weeks for him.

  4. I have a few ideas to throw out there. Tutor, teach remedial reading. Teach phonics. Thre is a huge demand for that. If you have mastered a language like spanish, teach one-on-one spanish.
    Teach swimming. Sell breakfast burritos. People luv mexican food. Clean peoples houses. That could bring $10-$15 an hour. Teach art class to home-school kids. Get a part-time job thru temp agency. Plant and sell vegetables or roses. Babysit one day a week. Make and sell a simple craft, like snowbricks. My mom just bought 3 of them for $36. She loves them. She is giving them away as gifts for xmas. They are octogonal pavers that are painted white then you paint a face on them and glue earmuffs on them. Prepare frozen meals that are ready to warm up for people. If you have cute kids, sign them with modeling agencies for commercials. If you have alot of property and good soil, you could buy a dumptruck and sell topsoil. Become an expert in organizing closets and then sell your service. Paint houses inside and out. Groom pets. If you are good you will devolop a customer base by word of mouth. Become a motivational speaker. Take a few online classes in an area that has potential profit and an area that you like. Learn your trade and find work in that field.

  5. My mother paid ten dollars to have that done at her house last year. You can usually print up a thousand or so business cards for about ten bucks, pick up some good heavy duty stencils, and go to work.
    They also offered additional options, such as painting the Texas flag right next to the numbers on the curb, which may not go over so well in Kansas, but hey, you never know. :)
